Dr. D's Starter-Grower Diet

Start to feed to the breeders on about the 4th day after the last egg is laid and until the youngest chick is
weaned. Also feed to the chicks until they are approximately 6 months old.

For Lady Gouldian Finches, feed Starter-Grower to the parent birds until the chicks wean, but continue to
feed it to the chicks until they
complete their juvenile molt (typically between 4 and 6 months).  Gouldian
finches require a much higher protein intake during their initial molt.  Failure to provide this protein may result
in the birds failing to thrive.  A Gouldian's juvenile molt is complete when you can no longer see any "olive"
colored feathers on their backs, and only solid adult color in their masks, chests, and bellies.  If they have
stopped molting but still have juvenile feathers, continue the Starter-Grower until they molt again and replace
the olive juvenile feathers.

If the mother hen is through laying, feed her the Maintenance diet.
This is also called a "breeder diet"
AVI-SCI, INC. IS THE ONLY PELLET SUPPLIER THAT GUARANTEES OUR PELLETS FRESH
FOR 90 DAYS FROM THE TIME YOU ORDER OUR PRODUCT.

WE WILL SHIP YOU REPLACEMENT FEED TOTALLY FREE OF CHARGE (INCLUDING SHIPPING)
IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT THAT THEY BECOME MOLDY OR BUGGY.
Being a natural product without
insecticides, there is a slight chance of this after about 5 months or so, but the risk is much less than with
whole seeds.  Our pellets contain no sunflower seed so you will never get moths from them. You can store the
pellets for 2 years safely in a freezer. Since we are the manufacturer and not just a distributor of our pellets,
you can be assured of receiving fresh pellets from us.  The problem with most of our competitors is that you
can not order directly from them but are forced to place your order with a distributor.  Those distributors, in
addition to marking up the product for additional profit for themselves, needs to order a large amount of feed
at a time for resale. So they may ship you product that has already been sitting in their warehouse for
months.  When you receive it from them, it is already old.  When we ship you pellets, they are always fresh.

When you look over our ingredient list, it is important to pay attention to what you
do NOT see as well as what is listed.

We do NOT add any artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives as we do not know what long
term health effects these may have. We add no sugar as others do. We add no meat scraps.
We add no ethoxyquin, but use natural preservatives such as Vitamin C and  Acetic Acid (a
mild acid, like vinegar).  If you look at the ingredient list below, you will see that everything
underlined below is the technical name for the natural preservatives we use.
Dr. D's Maintenance Diet - Feed this diet under several conditions:

  •  To the birds after 6 months old - Gouldians after they successfully complete their juvenile molt.
  •  To the breeder birds when not set up for breeding.
  •  To your pet bird as the only food.
NOTE: Dr D's diets are balanced complete feed to produce optimum growth, feathering, vigor, and
reproduction when used as directed.  Additional food items such as greens, cuttlebone, vitamin drops,
mineral supplements, egg food, and resting food are not needed or recommended.  Dr D's diets have all of
the nourishment those extra foodstuffs would supply. They are needed for seed type diets or those
inadequately formulated. Keep treats to a minimum - think of treats as giving candy to a child; keep them to
less than 10% of intake. We also don't recommend blending different types of pellet diets together.
